Hi gang! Let’s pick it up where we left off yesterday. The good news was given to us at Christ’s birth, and the Gospel (“good news”) carries on until today! We touched on Isaiah 9:6-7 yesterday, so let’s begin there.
6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;~Isaiah 9:6-7
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace,
On the throne of David and over his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness
From then on and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.
Indeed, a child was born and a son, the Holy Son of God the Father, was given to us! He was and is the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father and Prince of Peace.
Yet, the government has yet to rest upon His shoulders. He has yet to sit upon the throne of David over His kingdom. So, what do we make of the Good News? Has it failed? Is God a liar? Did He finish only half of His work?
If the story ended there, that would be the case. However, the Good News is yet to be fully fulfilled. Years after Isaiah proclaimed that prophecy, Jesus said to His disciples (and to us):
“Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.~John 14:1-3
That is also Good News! Jesus Christ was born the Lamb of God to take away the sin of the world, and after He became our sacrificial Lamb, He ascended into heaven to begin fulfillment of the Good News of John 1:1-3. He is preparing dwelling places in His Father’s home for those who believe and put their full trust in the finished work of salvation!
He also promised to come again and receive us to Himself (that is the rapture), that where He is, there we may be also! That’s Good News!
Furthermore, He will return to earth again (His Second Coming) to bring peace, and we will be with Him! At that time, the government of the whole world will rest upon His shoulders, and He will sit on the throne of David, establishing and upholding justice and righteousness, just as the prophet Isaiah said!
That is worth rejoicing! So, I share the same invitation issued yesterday: Will you join me, as we close out 2019, in praise to the Most High God?
“Glory to God in the highest,~Luke 2:14
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
Meet you back here tomorrow for Part 3!
