Renewed Chaos in the Middle East

Amid contentious Israeli elections, chaos also ramps up in other key places in the Middle East.

Consider Iran. Shortly after it was leaked on Sunday that the Trump administration would designate the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a foreign terrorist organization, Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif tweeted that Trump “should know better than to be conned into another US disaster.” Meanwhile, the head of IRG stated, “With this stupidity, the American army and security forces will no longer have today’s calm in the west Asia region.” Yesterday, the official announcement was made and Iran responded by designating American Central Command (military wing in the Middle East) a terrorist organization.

Meanwhile, Iran was also hit with another wave of flooding. Just days ago we learned that at least 23 of Iran’s 31 provinces were severely flooded in downpours over the past few weeks. Over the past few days, flood waters have hit once again, leaving 1,900 towns and villages across Iran under several feet of water.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s President, Tayyip Erdogan suffered dramatic and unexpected political dents when his party lost control of several major cities in Turkey during recent elections. Big reforms Erdogan had in mind to jump start a sagging economy now face uphill challenges.

Elsewhere, the nation of Sudan found themselves powerless when a total blackout occurred on Sunday. Government officials had no explanation of the outage. Along with that, extreme Islamic terrorism is rampant, particularly against Christians, women, and anyone who stands in the way of a brutal regime in Northern Sudan.

In Libya, an intense and bloody civil war has broken out, and the UN recently called for a truce in southern Tripoli in order to evacuate wounded. The truce failed as Eastern Libyan forces unleashed airstrikes on Tripoli.

Do you know what all these nations (Iran, Turkey, Sudan and Libya) have in common? They are all listed among the coalition partners in the War of Gog and Magog prophesied by Ezekiel. Each nation-state is in turmoil, and each is in dire need of solutions for broken economies and social issues. What will bind them together? The spoils Ezekiel describes in chapter 38. Israel has what that coalition wants: resources! They also stand in the way of evil regimes who want to take over the world.

But here is the kicker: Who is left out of that list of coalition partners? The leader, Russia! What’s going on there?

Interestingly enough, Russia and Israel are cooperating like teammates at the moment! Russia is allowing Israel free reign to conduct airstrikes on Iranian targets within Russian-controlled Syria, Russia just helped bring home the remains of an Israeli soldier lost in battle in Lebanon 37 years ago, and Putin is not making any moves to invade or attack Israel (though Russia control Syria). What’s up with that!

The reality is that there is absolutely no love lost between Russia and Iran. In fact, Russia is currently miffed at Syrian President Assad for allowing Iran to control the seaport of Latakia in exchange for forgiveness of debt. Though Russia, Iran and Turkey will be the big players in the prophesied invasion of Israel they have very different motives. Iran wants to wipe Israel off the map. Erdogan wants to rebuild and command the old Ottoman Empire (an Islamic caliphate), and Israel is in their way. All of them are motivated economically, but Russia will eventually come after the spoils (oil and gas) in Israel. They want the resources Israel has, and the global power that comes with it!

Lest you think Libya and Sudan are irrelevant, consider that they are clearly listed as part of the coalition (Put and Cush/Ethiopia) in Ezekiel 38:5. Today, Libya is a training ground for Iranian-proxy terrorist groups, and Sudan has long been the conduit through which Iran has attempted to get weapons into the Gaza Strip and elsewhere to attack Israel.

We are living in interesting times. Who will form Israel’s next government and lead Israel in these last days? How long will Russia continue to play nicely with Israel in the Middle East sandbox? How quickly can Iran develop nuclear weapons, position them and activate them to attack Israel? How patient will Erdogan be in his pursuit of the caliphate? How long before no one stands with Israel?

Stay tuned, friends. Pieces on the chess board continue to move toward checkmate. Our Lord is the chess master, and we can rest assured that His Word will stand! A fierce coalition may soon march on Israel, and when they do, God’s fury will mount up in anger and the invasion will be very short-lived…just as He said! (Read Ezekiel 38:18-23 and all of Ezekiel 39!)

What a Savior!

PS: Please continue to pray as Israeli elections wrap up. May God place a “Josiah-type” leader in the Prime Minister’s office!
