Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, was hospitalized earlier today (Sunday) for the third time in a week.
Though a staunch hater of Israel, we have a commandment from our Lord to pray:
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
~Matthew 5:43-48
Perfection is a high standard. In fact, none of us can achieve it apart from the power of the Holy Spirit and the life of Christ who lives in us. Will you call upon that power and pray for President Abbas? He needs the mercy and salvation of the One True God of Abraham. He believes his name is Allah, so ask our Lord Jesus Christ to send the Holy Spirit to reveal truth and to make Himself known.
True peace in the Middle East is impossible, short of the Prince of Peace!
