While not extremely rare, it is a privilege reserved for few: a foreign dignitary speaking before another country’s parliament. Yet, US Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to address the Israeli Knesset (similar to Congress in the US) on December 18, marking the first time a US official has done so since George W Bush’s May 2008 appearance commemorating Israel’s 60th birthday.
Pence will likely focus on the American-Israeli relationship and the threat of Iran’s nuclear program to the Middle East. It is unlikely Pence will mention the current peace initiative, of which details have not been released. However, while in the area, Pence will discuss the potential peace agreement with PM Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo.
Let’s pray for our Vice President, that God will grant him favor and respect. VP Pence is a solid Christian who has been outspoken about his faith. The Vice President is also in tremendous position to have input to the President, and I believe God has put Mike Pence in that position for such a time as this. Pray for wisdom and leadership.
Blessings!
