Today is the monthly day of prayer for Israel. The Isaiah 62 Prayer Initiative, launched by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, is a worldwide prayer event. Using Isaiah 62 as a guide, Christians around the globe join forces on the first Wednesday of every month to pray for Israel, as commanded in Scripture (Psalm 122:6-9).
Here, I call it “For Zion’s Sake,” as that is the heart of the initiative, and captures the essence of Isaiah 62. As we kick off the second month of 2017, let’s consider the prayer emphasis of verse 2, taken directly from ICEJ’s Small Group Prayer Guide:
The nations shall see your righteousness,
and all the kings your glory,
and you shall be called by a new name
that the mouth of the Lord will give.
Praise: Lord, thank You that nations and kings shall see righteousness in Zion. We praise You that we who believe in Jesus, the Anointed One of Israel, partake of Your righteousness even now.
Ponder: God has not abandoned His people. The nations – that is, the gentiles – for the most part do not recognize God, let alone His people Israel and her eternal capital, Jerusalem. But there are gentiles who know their Bibles and see the truth, so God calls this remnant of “Biblical Zionists” to prayer. He calls us to tell Him to bring forth all He has promised. Today, kings, prime ministers, presidents and other world leaders do not see the glory in Israel’s future, but they will. With joy, the nations and their leaders will one day behold a Zion that epitomizes justice and displays God’s splendor. Jerusalem’s renown shall be designated by God Himself, and it is for this that He calls us to pray.
Why not get together with a local Isaiah 62 Prayer Group or pledge to pray on your own. As always, if you are in the Phoenix area, you are invited to join us in prayer for Israel at Calvary Community Church, Room 301, at 6:00pm (details and directions here).
The Isaiah 62 Prayer Initiative draws people from around the world to pray for Israel the first Wednesday of every month. Get involved!
