World Leaders Gather to Remember Shimon Peres

Israel lost the last of their modern-day founding fathers on Wednesday with the passing of Shimon Peres.  As a public servant, Peres served in almost every capacity of the Israeli government, including two stints as Prime Minister and President from 2007 to 2014.  He was a Noble Peace Prize winner for his work in the Israeli-Palestinian Peace Talks.

Tomorrow, the icon will be laid to rest on Mt Herzl, along with other noble Israeli leaders who have passed before him.  On hand will be leaders from 80 different countries around the world.  US President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton will be in attendance, along with an estimated 20 presidents, 15 foreign ministers, 5 heads of state, and a stable of other dignitaries (reports The Jerusalem Post).  Included among dignitaries will be Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who requested and was granted permission by the Israeli government to attend.

One can only imagine the level of security necessary for a gathering such as this.  Israel’s Shin Bet is prepared, and security will include “over and covert circles of defense” for the world’s leaders.

Christians, let’s join the security effort!  Will you join me in praying to the God of the Universe for safety and supernatural protection for those gathering in Israel?  Let’s cover the land with a prayer network between now and late Friday when the dignitaries exit the land.  (In fact, let’s pray them all the way back home!)  Also, Israel is mourning the loss of a hero, and a family is mourning the loss of a great man.  Let’s pray for them too!

On another note…and speaking of heroes…please check back on Saturday for a special post.  Shimon Peres was a tremendous hero for the state of Israel.  We all need heroes, and I want to introduce you to one.  See you then!
