The Strategic Role of Jordan

Though a very key player in the Middle East, it seems that little is known about the important role that Jordan plays.  First, you must know that Jordan is one of only two Middle East countries (Egypt being the other) that has a peace treaty with Israel.  Though not favorable to everything Israel does, Jordan is a faithful ally in many regards, and King Abdullah is a reformer worth knowing about.  (Read more about him here.)

Jordan is not only a buffer between ISIS and other radical Islamic groups and Israel, but they are also on the forefront of humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees.  In fact, Jordan’s population grew by 20% when they took in refugees fleeing war-torn Syria.  (Roughly 650,000)  This was on top of the millions of Palestinian and other refugees who make their home in Jordan.  You can imagine how that many refugees tax a nation’s school system, healthcare system, economy and social services.  (Jordan is about the size of Indiana.)

On Sunday night, King Abdullah was interviewed on 60 Minutes about the situation in Jordan, and the threat that ISIS poses.  I believe the interview helps us get a glimpse of a man who understands that radical Islam is not healthy, and that there is a better way of life for the Muslim people.  I hope you’ll watch this interview, then pray for King Abdullah.  He is a true friend of Israel and the United States.
