Friends, the primary elections are virtually over and we are now in the lull between primaries and each political party’s convention, where candidates will actually be nominated. Many seem to be holding their collective breath, wondering what will become of our great nation. I certainly have concerns, but I’m not worried.
Concerned, yes, because of the state of our nation. We have given in to immorality and unrighteousness and there is no candidate left in this year’s election that carries any promise of leading us down a righteous path. We should all be concerned for the state of our nation.
Worried, no, because our God is greater than all this! Remember, we (Christians) are simply sojourners on this planet and one day (soon!) we’ll be taken to the place our Lord Jesus is preparing for us right now! (John 14:1-3) Maranatha, Lord come quickly!
Meanwhile, we live in this fallen world, and we are to pray! That’s what the Decision America Tour is all about. Franklin Graham is visiting the capital city of every single state in America, bringing a message of hope, and a message of exhortation to live out our faith in our homes, in public, and at the ballot box.
Today and tomorrow, the tour stops in Missouri and Nebraska. Let’s join in prayer for our nation’s heartland.
Tuesday, May 17, 2016: Jefferson City, Missouri
- 88% of Missouri residents self-identify as Christians.
- 30% of the population attend church, pray, and read the Bible.
- 40% of 18- to 25-year-olds in the state reported binge alcohol use.
“God of all mercies, we join with our friends in Missouri to ask You to spark revival in their midst. Use Missouri to light the revival flame in America! God bless those who attend church, pray, and read the Bible, but Lord cause there to be a stir that brings about the true love of Jesus Christ our Lord. We pray that the 88% will not simply “self-identify” as Christians, but will be identified as true followers of Jesus Christ, our King. Please bring us all to deeper understanding of what it means to be a Christ-follower. Father God, break the foothold of binge drinking and bring those young people to focus on Your life and Your righteousness. Help them to understand that true meaning in life is not found in the bottom of a bottle, but in the person of Jesus our Savior. Shower amazing grace upon Missouri, and draw them to Yourself, in Jesus’ Name.”
Wednesday, May 18, 2016: Lincoln, Nebraska
- 42% of Nebraskans ages 50-68 are unchurched.
- 60% of the state’s population do not read the Bible.
- Nearly half of all Nebraskans believe that Jesus did not lead a sinless life.
“Father, Your Word is clear: You made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin, to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21). Lord, we plead for the souls of those who fail to understand that it was Your perfect life that had to be sacrificed for us in order that we could become righteous through salvation in You. Cause a “belief” to arise in Nebraska…a belief that Jesus Christ lived a perfectly sinless life, yet sacrificed it for every sinful person on the planet. We all sin and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Yet, Lord Jesus, You came while we were yet sinners and died for us. (Romans 5:8) Oh, how great a salvation! Father, bring the unchurched into fellowship so they, too, might hear of this great salvation. Cause Nebraskans to open their Bibles and read the Good News of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection on their behalf! May the eyes of American’s everywhere be opened to that reality, but will You light the fuse in Nebraska? Have Your way in the hearts and minds of the people of Nebraska.”
