Outraged and Heartbroken

Friends, do you ever experience times of sheer outrage and heartbreak when you look at the condition of today’s world?  Though I am supremely confident that our Lord God is firmly in control, we have to live in a world that is not only far from perfect, but walking away from from our gracious God at a pace that simply makes me dizzy!

When time allows I sometimes take a look at headlines during a hasty lunch.  Such was the case today, and I found myself heartbroken at where America and the world stand today.  Let me walk you through what I found:

First, I found our Vice President expressing “overwhelming frustration” with the Israeli government.  That is disturbing on two fronts.  One, because less than a month ago I heard him address a crowd of 18,000+ at the AIPAC Policy Conference in Washington, where he touted the magnificent relationship the current US administration has with Israel.  On Monday, he happened to be addressing the anti-Israel J Street lobbying group, thus “speaking out of both sides of his mouth,” stating two completely opposite things, based on the stance of the group in front of him.

As Christians…
we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming…
~Ephesians 4:14

The other disturbing factor about VP Joe Biden’s remarks is the simple fact that he has once again provided clear evidence of the lack of support for Israel by the current administration.

Secondly, following a strong statement by Benjamin Netanyahu regarding maintaining control of the Golan Heights, the US State Department followed the lead of Germany and the Arab League in rejecting Netanyahu’s assertion that the Golan must remain in Israeli control.  Keep in mind that the Golan Heights are legally part of Israel’s sovereign territory, and are critical to keeping Israel safe.  Not only is it “high ground” from which enemies could easily attack Israel, but it is on the Syrian border where ISIS, Hezbollah and other terrorist groups are amassing.

Based on the stance taken by the US State Department, the territory should be negotiated.  To put it in a facetious comparison, should the US have to “negotiate” with some other country in order to retain California…or Florida…or any other state in the Union?  Absolutely not!  This US policy of dividing up Israel’s land is dangerous, not only to Israel, but to us as well.

I will gather all the nations
And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat.
Then I will enter into judgment with them there
On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel,
Whom they have scattered among the nations;
And they have divided up My land.
~Joel 3:2 [Emphasis mine]

If that wasn’t disheartening enough, I took a quick look at Answers in Genesis’ website, where I read Ken Ham’s blog entitled, Human Sacrifice in Our Western Culture?  Not only is our country off track internationally, we can’t get it right internally either.  Among the great many moral failures of our day, abortion is perhaps the most gut-wrenching in my mind, as we sacrifice unborn children to the god of self…just as the Israelites sacrificed children to burn on the altars of Molech:

They built the high places of Baal that are in the valley of Ben-hinnom to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to Molech, which I had not commanded them nor had it entered My mind that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
~Jeremiah 32:35

I am outraged.  I am heartbroken.  How about you?

But friends, we are not of this world!  This earth is not our home.  We are simply journeying through to our eternal home with God who will judge the world in righteousness!  This week, we’re in the middle of studying about the Passover (which begins Friday at sundown), and what we find is that Jesus is the fulfillment of all that the Passover represents.  He is the Passover Lamb who was sacrificed for the sin of the entire world…including the atrocities that are occurring in our day.  Praise God for that!

If you’ve missed the previous posts on the Passover, why  not check them out:

Then, check back in over the next few days as we see continue to see Jesus in the Passover!  Be blessed, my friends!
