House speaker John Boehner has invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address the US Congress in March to discuss the Iranian nuclear threat. The White House is plenty steamed about it and have launched a tirade via White House aides. Meanwhile, regarding that invitation, Netanyahu stated:
“As prime minister of Israel, I am obligated to make every effort in order to prevent Iran from achieving nuclear weapons that would be aimed at the State of Israel. This effort is worldwide and I will go anywhere I am invited in order to enunciate the State of Israel’s position and in order to defend its future and its existence.”
During the State of the Union address, President Obama claimed that “we’ve halted the progress of its [Iran’s] nuclear program and reduced its stockpile of nuclear material.” The Washington Post promptly gave him “three Pinocchios,” based on the fact that Iran’s nuclear capabilities have actually advanced significantly over the past few years. That threat is of grave danger not only to Israel, but to the US as well.
While Obama continues to push down the road of negotiating with a regime determined to wipe Israel off the map, Netanyahu has consistently warned against making a bad deal with Iran. In a recent article in the Times of Israel, Netanyahu stated:
“In the coming weeks, the superpowers will reach a framework agreement with Iran — an agreement that would allow Iran to keep its capabilities as a nuclear threshold state — which primarily endangers the existence of the State of Israel. Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.”
(There is an informative 2-minute video on the Times of Israel link above as well.)
Netanyahu understands the existential threat posed by Iran and their apocalyptic theology of wiping out infidels in order to bring about a world-wide caliphate. Iran has clearly stated their ambition to “wipe Israel off the map.” My question is this: If Israel is the “Little Satan” and the US is the “Great Satan,” as identified by Iran, what does Iran want to do to the US? It seems pretty clear!
So, neither President Obama nor Secretary of State John Kerry will meet with Netanyahu while he is in Washington DC. More evidence that US relations with Israel are shaky at best. In the end, we know that not a single nation will stand with Israel (though God will be on her side!) Let’s pray that our Lord would bring about a change of heart in American leadership before it’s too late. Will you join me in that prayer?
