Current Event: Suicide Bomber Stopped at Checkpoint

Hi friends!  Current news again matches our study for this week, so I want to share an extra post with you today.

On Friday (5/30/14) Israeli border police at the Tepuach junction in the West Bank thwarted a suicide bombing attack by a 20-year-old Palestinian terrorist.  After noticing suspicious-looking clothing on the man, Israeli police searched him to find 12 pipe bombs.  It is believed that the man arrived from Nablus with intentions of detonating himself at the checkpoint to take out IDF soldiers.  He was arrested and, at last report, was being interrogated.

As we’re learning, the Palestinian-controlled West Bank is infested with terrorists whose ambition is to cause harm to Israel.  Terrorist activity within the West Bank is common, and at times Israel uses special forces to infiltrate terror cells in efforts to ward off terror being brought to the Israeli-controlled portions of Israel.

While in Israel earlier this year, we had the grand privilege of visiting Duvdevan’s command base.  Duvdevan (Hebrew for “cherry”) is Israel’s most elite counter-terrorism unit, working primarily in Palestinian areas, infiltrating and capturing known militants.  Interestingly, on the day we were there, the unit had finished preparations for two missions to be carried out during the next two nights.  The following day, we got word that, overnight, a strike force from that unit had infiltrated a terrorist cell in the West Bank and had taken out the #2 terrorist there!  It was an amazing time to have been in their midst!

This week, we’re digging a bit deeper into the two terrorist groups (Hamas and Hezbollah) most actively causing grief for Israel and her citizens.  We’ll learn more about them and how they function.  Then, stay tuned!  I’m going to introduce you to a former terrorist who used to be directly involved in plotting and carrying out destruction against Israel, but who has now given his life to Jesus and is sharing his story.  You won’t want to miss that!

Despite terrorist activity, gang, let’s be reminded of one thing: God still stands on the side of His chosen land and His chosen people!  He has promised to defend Israel, and He will be faithful to His promise!  Meanwhile, He has invited us to be a part of what He is doing on behalf of Israel.  Psalm 122 exhorts us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.  Only when the Prince of Peace is truly known, will the hearts of men be fully at peace!  Take a few minutes to pray for Israel…and for her enemies!  The Prince of Peace came to save us all!

Stop in later today when we’ll take a look at Hezbollah….Iran’s puppet!

Shabbat Shalom!
