Hi friends! If you are familiar with the Jewish calendar, you know that sundown tonight marks the beginning of the Feast of Trumpets. But did you know that in Israel, you are more likely to hear it mentioned as Rosh Hashanah?
Meaning “head of the year,” Israelis look at the day as New Year’s Day. They will celebrate in similar ways to how the rest of the world celebrates January 1, completely ignoring what the Tanach (Old Testament) teaches them about their own feasts! Biblically, the beginning of the year is just prior to Passover, but that’s a story for another time!
As believers in Jesus, we appreciate the Jewish feasts because each one points us to Jesus! One word of caution, though, as we enter the Feasts of Trumpets. Christians tend to forget that the feasts are Jewish feasts…meant for the Jewish people! Thus, our excitement about Jesus returning during the Feast of Trumpets for us may be a bit offline! More accurately, it likely points to the time Jewish eyes will be open and the Messiah will return for them. (Second Coming rather than the rapture.) For now, we won’t argue the point, but will simply acknowledge the excitement of the first of the fall feasts.
