What Does God’s Word Say about UFOs?

Yesterday we asked the question, “What’s up with UFOs?” Today, we will move beyond that discussion to consider what Scripture has to say about the topic. Though the Bible does not speak specifically of UFOs and extraterrestrials by name, there are definitely principles to guide us as we discern what to think about this issue.

There are definitely flying objects that have not or cannot be identified. Likewise, there are objects seen in the seas that also have no explanation or identification. UFOs (and their aquatic counterparts) are real. The world asks, “What is it?” As believers, we should ask, “What does God’s Word have to say about such things?” So that’s where we’re headed in today’s discussion.

Let’s anchor our discussion in Ephesians 6:10-13 which clearly speaks of our battle against principalities, powers, and rulers of darkness:

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

As noted in yesterday’s post, nothing came into being apart from the knowledge of the Creator. God created the heavens and the earth and everything in it (Colossians 1:16). Even angels and demons are created beings. One serves to glorify God, while the other serves at the behest of Satan himself. In the passage above, the Apostle Paul warns that we wrestle against principalities, powers and rulers of darkness. The demonic realm. The last days are characterized by deception perpetrated by those principalities, powers, and rulers of darkness (demons).

The entire narrative surrounding UFOs and other worldly things reeks of fear, deception, and the desire to lead us away from what is steadfast and true (the truth of God’s Word). Ephesians tells us to be strong, to put on the whole armor of God, and to stand against the wiles of the devil.

How interesting that many UFO fanatics are also involved in the occult. 1 Timoty 4:1 warns that some will depart from faith in the last days, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. Christians, be warned! Short of grounding ourselves in the truth of God’s Word, we will fall to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. Don’t get caught up in the alien experience, but rather, get caught up in the truth of God’s Word!

Many things regarding UFO sightings and alien visitations are demonic manifestations. What is seen is sometimes unhuman and not normal. Where do they come from, if not the pit of hell itself? Some say, “Other planets,” but Scripture certainly does not clearly support life anywhere but on earth.

As believers, we are taught to understand the time and season in which we live. We are living in the last days and signs are all around us! In Matthew 24, Jesus’ disciples asked Him about signs of the times and the end of the age, and Jesus’ first admonition was, Take heed that no one deceives you. Paul’s great teaching in 2 Thessalonians 2 regarding the last days includes a specific warning not to be deceived (verse 3) and a firm warning that God will send a strong delusion upon those who believe the lie (verse 11).

Deceiving spirits, doctrines of demons, and strong delusion are wrapped up in Satan’s use of UFOs. Mysterious beings and sightings are the work of the enemy perpetrated through spreading fear and deception, often using the mouths of humans who succumb to Satan’s wiles.

Avoid being drawn in by the ideas of man being used as a mouthpiece for Satan!

See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.
~Colossians 2:8

Don’t be taken captive, friends. Angelic activity will always lead you toward honoring and worshiping God, while demonic activity will threaten with fear, lead you astray with deception, and cause strong delusion preventing a strong relationship with the Living God.

We will close by going full circle back to our passage in Ephesians 6 (above). Be strong, put on the full armor of God, and stand against the enemy. That happens ONLY if we are in God’s Word and fully grounded in truth.
