In a world saturated with evidence pointing toward the last days, it should come as no surprise when prophecies such as those in Revelation 13 appear to come to life right before our very eyes. That chapter reveals two beasts coming out of the sea (antichrist) and out of the land (false prophet) during the Tribulation. The beast of the land is subordinate to the beast of the sea, and both are under the influence and authority of Satan. (There is sound commentary about these beasts in David Guzik’s Enduring Word commentary of Revelation 13.)
In verses 16-17, the beast of the land causes those on the earth to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads. No one is able to buy or sell without that mark of the beast.
What is that mark? Throughout history, attempts to identify it have changed based on new ideas and technology. For example, previous generations have proposed things such as birthmarks, tattoos, and imbedded chips as potential marks of the beast. While we stop short of dogmatically declaring palm prints to be the mark, the technology surrounding the use of palm prints advances the sophistication to the point of feasibility.
