And you think American politics is a mess! Have you noticed the chaos in Israel? Ultra-religious MK’s are threatening to leave Netanyahu’s coalition, the courts are attempting to lock Netanyahu up on (pardon the pun) trumped up charges, and major news outlets in Israel are working overtime to squeeze Netanyahu any way they can to get him out of power.
Like him or hate him, the point is not whether Netanyahu should or should not be Prime Minister. That is a decision for the people of Israel. The point is that MK’s, courts, media and “never-Netanyahu’s” are doing everything in their power to take out the sitting Prime Minister. (Here and here are a couple of examples. Israeli media is brutal…careful who you get your news from!)
For those of us in America, it sounds all too familiar. What is the world coming to? It seems to be a worldwide godless society. Lies, deception, hatred, animosity and all things evil seem to drive politics in the world’s most respected democratic societies. (Or, in America’s case, a constitutional republic…the only successful one in the world!)
What is the appropriate response for those of us who name the Name of Jesus as our Lord? Romans 13:1 tells us that God puts leaders in place, and we are subject to them. Proverbs 21:1 underscores God’s sovereignty in the rise and fall of leaders, and God’s Word says we are to pray for our leaders. (1 Timothy 2:1-2)
Putting trust in the Lord our God is critical to viewing leadership in the right perspective, and praying for our leaders is commanded by Him. Whether or not we agree with our leaders, we are wise to heed God’s Word. Let’s do that today, and let’s start with prayer!
Blessings, friends!
