To fully understand the situation in Gaza today, it is important to understand their history. How did Gaza come to be, and how did Hamas come to power? Is it really their land? Dr Erez Soref does a great job summarizing Gaza’s history in the video below. Take a look, then we’ll consider some additional thoughts afterward.
The video was produced over a year ago, so though Gaza’s history remains the same, much has transpired since the video was produced.
For example, there is rising discussion regarding what should happen to Gaza at this point. There are viewpoints that fall everywhere from “give it back to Israel” to “turn it back over to Hamas if they agree to release all the hostages.” Both are extreme, so few people agree totally with either of those positions. (Honestly, though I do lean toward Israel retaking the land, the issue of resettlement of Palestinians would remain an issue.)
To stir the pot, President Trump has put forth some “outside-the-box” ideas including a temporary US takeover of Gaza until it can be cleared and rebuilt. Palestinians would be allowed to stay if they wish, or find refuge in another country until Gaza is rebuilt. Either way, Gaza would remain a long-term home for Palestinians who wish to stay or return. The question: who would rule Gaza?
Israel has clearly stated Hamas must not be left in charge. After all, how can a nation live in safety with an enemy who wants to destroy them living once again in their backyard?
There is also a wide range of thought regarding the Palestinians themselves. Given the volume of Nazi and other antisemitic indoctrination materials found in Gaza homes, one train of thought is “Hamas is Gaza and Gaza is Hamas.” In other words, everyone living in Gaza is corrupted by Nazi propaganda and supportive of Hamas ideology. The other train of thought is that Gazans are prisoners of tyrannical leadership, and many long to escape that tyranny.
Perhaps we are about to see which it is. If Palestinians living in Gaza have the opportunity to go elsewhere, will they? Or will they voluntarily remain part of the hyper-Nazi propaganda machine? If Trump’s plan of granting Palestinians the opportunity to escape the hellhole, will they? Time will tell.
