Friends, I just finished watching Screams before Silence, a 1-hour documentary about Hamas’ sexualization of the attack on October 7, and I am left with raw emotions and righteous anger. I heard previously of the brutally sexual violence perpetrated by demonic monsters whose goal it was to rape, mutilate and humiliate every woman and young girl they could get their hands on.
But to hear accounts from victims (including former hostages), first responders, and forensic experts who were tasked with identifying bodies and preparing them for burial is a whole new level of atrocity.
Admittedly, anger arose as I considered a wider range of thoughts:
- Where are all the “women’s rights” advocates?
- Where is the worldwide outrage at the brutally evil treatment of human beings, much less women?
- Why are we allowing spoiled, brainwashed punks to take over campuses and cities when the very group they are backing (Hamas) would, in an instant, do the same to them?
- What a supernatural level of restraint the IDF has, knowing what has been done to their people. What restraint Israel’s War Cabinet has not to obliterate an entire people group.
- What incredibly demonic responses are coming from the American administration and other major entities (such as the UN, ICC and others) who wish to tie Israel’s hands. Woe to them.
- Why aren’t Americans (particularly Christians) rising up in throngs to say, “We’ve had enough!” Why are we so reticent to take our message to the streets and to our federal and state capitals? (Now is a great time to contact your elected representatives at the federal and state levels and implore them to back Israel in their fight against evil.)
- Why do we not understand that evil left unchecked will come to our own cities and neighborhoods? They have told us who they are and what they want to do. We should believe them.
- Who is going to stand with the Jewish people?
- Though most Christians say they support Israel, why aren’t we doing more to prove that?
- What will it take to wake us up? Will we ever be awakened, or are we too content simply to rest on the promise that our Savior will come again for us…but too bad for everyone else.
- Meanwhile, we remain silent to share the Good News with friends, family and God’s uniquely called people (the Jews). I find it interesting that, despite being produced by a secular Jewish production company, the film ends with a song entitled Reborn, repeating the mantra, “I want to be reborn, I want to be reborn, I want to be reborn…..” as the film fades to black. As Christians, will we take up the mantle to share the Good News so that these and others will have their wish and be reborn?
For me, this weekend will be one of contemplation of those things. Perhaps you might be inspired likewise. Screams before Silence is not for everyone. If you have a weak stomach or are especially sensitive to personal trauma, it is probably best to forego the video. Please use discretion.
