The City of David is amazing!!! Yes, it contains King David’s palace and it happens to have been the original Jerusalem! When Nehemiah returned from Babylonian captivity, this is where he rebuilt the walls of the city!
Within the City of David is one of the most astounding construction projects ever undertaken. Hezekiah’s Tunnel was built by the Jews in order to draw water from the Gihon Spring, which is outside the city walls. What is amazing, though, is that work on that water tunnel began at each end and met in the middle….underground! How did they do that!?! (You’ve got to go there to get that answer! Lord willing, we’re going in February 2025, so come with us to unlock many secrets of the Holy Land!)
Today, visitors can actually hike through Hezekiah’s Tunnel, often in water up to mid-thigh. It is not for the claustrophobic, but if you’re adventurous, you will love it! About half our group took on the adventure while the other half saw other sites.
Then we headed back into the Old City to visit the Jewish quarter. I love being there, getting up close and personal with IDF soldiers (see above…don’t ask, don’t tell!), seeing Jewish people gather in the “Town Square” and watching children play in the streets! (No cars in this particular part of the Old City.) What an adventure!
Something very significant makes its home in the center of the Jewish quarter! To find out what it is, journey with us back to that glorious place…
Our tour group had an anointed tour of the City of David and Hezekiah’s tunnel.
Praise God! It is a fabulous place!
I would love to revisit those significant places.
Lord willing, I’ll relaunch tours again as soon as the country opens back up to that. Right now many of the hotels we would typically stay in are filled with Israelis evacuated from their homes. Praying for opportunities to go! Would love to have you with us!
