One of my favorite experiences in Israel was celebrating Hannukah several years ago. The 8-day celebration is not a moedim (Appointed Time, major feast), nor is it mentioned in the Tanakh (Old Testament, Hebrew Scripture). However, John 10:22-23 tells us Jesus and His family made aliyah to Jerusalem to observe the Feast of Dedication (aka Hannukah or Feast of Lights).
Hannukah begins at sundown tonight, so over the next few days, we will discover more about this festive season. But first, some fond memories of being in Israel for Hanukkah.
Singing, dancing and jubilation filled the streets of Jerusalem, and festive symbols of Hanukkah were projected on to the walls of the Old City.

Lighting of hanukkiah all around Jerusalem was a sight to see.

Hanukkah is known for dreidels, fancy cookies and endless sufganiyot (decadent donuts), and you find them everywhere during Hanukkah!

Hanukkah is a jubilant celebration of light, and the joy of experiencing it in Jerusalem is one I will never forget! It is also a fantastic reminder of Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah, who revealed Himself as the Light of the world.
Stick with us over the next few days as we celebrate this joyous time with our Jewish friends and learn about its significance to us as believers in Jesus!
חנוכה שמח (Happy Hanukkah!)
