Israelis woke up to very sad news this morning, as reports of fallen soldiers made headlines.

The border with Egypt is usually peaceful, but trouble erupted in the early morning hours of June 3 when a terrorist dressed in an Egyptian uniform apparently cut through the border fence (see image to the left), infiltrated Israel and killed three Israeli soldiers.

Reports indicate two soldiers patrolling the border did not answer a call on their radios so their commanding officer went to the scene and found them dead. The area was immediately secured and a search began for the terrorist(s).

Hours later, a single gunman was identified, shot and killed by IDF forces. The terrorist was wearing an Egyptian military uniform and was confirmed to be a member of the Egyptian border police. A third IDF soldier was killed during a shootout with the terrorist.

To make matters worse, a spokesman for the Egyptian army attempted to normalize the incident, indicating the soldier was allegedly pursuing drug smugglers when he breached the security fence. Supposedly an exchange of gun fire ensued, and an Egyptian soldier was killed. They went on to say the incident is under investigation and the area is secured.

While Israel mourns the deaths of their soldiers, Israeli-Egyptian investigations continue. Please pray for the families who lost loved ones and pray for wisdom Israeli and Egyptian leadership.
