Welcome back, Bible students! I love the hunt and I love the find! We’re searching for nuggets in the goldmine of Scripture, an we’re finding them! We’re in the midst of a short study of Haggai 2:1-9. Take a moment to read that passage, and if you missed the first three parts of our mini-series entitled, When God Shakes Thing Up, find them here: A Look at Haggai 2:1-9, The Lord of Heaven’s Armies Speaks, and It’s Time to Wake Up.
God is shaking things up and we would be wise to understand His purposes. We considered one reason yesterday: Because it is time for the church to wake up. Today, let’s consider this: God is shaking things up to guide us to peace and security.
You might say, “What!?! How can shaking bring peace and security?”
First, we must understand that God and God alone is the answer to all our problems. He is also the answer to problems of every nation and tribe.
“Those who depart from Me
~Jeremiah 17:13-14
Shall be written in the earth,
Because they have forsaken the Lord,
The fountain of living waters.”
Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed;
Save me, and I shall be saved.
Once the Lord had spoken, the prophet sought peace and security, and knew where to turn for healing and salvation. Our God is the only source, and He promises peace and security. It is in the shaking that we are drawn to Him.
In the New Testament, Jesus Himself beckoned all to come. He said:
“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
~John 7:37-38
He went on to explain that He was speaking of the Holy Spirit, sent to guide and comfort, bringing peace and security. Isaiah 9:6 also identifies Jesus as the Prince of Peace. No one and nothing else will satisfy our longing for peace and security. Only Jesus can do that and He longs to draw us to Him. When we come to the fountain of living water, we are filled. Shaking causes us to seek Him. Put your trust in the One who gives peace and security.
Be encouraged, study friends! Our God is faithful! Join us again tomorrow around the virtual study table and we’ll discover another purpose for God’s shaking of heaven, earth, land, sea and the nations. See you then!
