Passion Week is upon us. For Christians, it culminates in the most sacred events on our calendar: Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. However, as Jesus entered the Holy City of Jerusalem for the last time (until His soon return!), it initiated what we call Passion Week.
The Old Testament prophesied of One to come who would be Savior of the Jews. Every Old Testament prophecy of His birth had been fulfilled to a tee! For example: He was born in Bethlehem as Micah 5:2-4 predicted, to a Virgin as foretold in Isaiah 7:14, and fled to Egypt with Mary and Joseph, only to be called out of that land and back to Israel as prophesied in Hosea 11:1.
Now, on Palm Sunday (the first day of Passion Week), Jesus was about to fulfill dozens more prophecies concerning betrayal, illegal trials, the punishment He bore (for our sins), His crucifixion, burial and resurrection. It turned out to be the most consequential week in all of history, and today is Palm Sunday!
Thus, for this week, we’ll focus on specific meditations commemorating the occasion, but also helping us truly understand and appreciate Jesus’ sacrifice for us. I’m borrowing from my good friends at Canyon Ministries (special thanks to Board Chairman, Dr Bill Barrick, who authored these meditations), and I hope you will join me in spending quality time in meditation upon the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made for you and me! Enjoy!
