It was a disastrous weekend for American leadership, due primarily to contradictory statements by Joe Biden. As a result, America has taken another crippling hit to our integrity and position as a world leader.
To no one’s shock, politicians and public figures make mistakes. So do you and I. But when the man in the world’s most powerful position gaffes regularly, leaving the White House staff to clean up verbal vomit, it quickly becomes a disgusting scenario. On at least two occasions, Biden either went off-script to make startling remarks, or his scriptwriters are not on the same page with his White House staff.
First, in a bumbling visit with US 82nd Airborne troops in Poland, Biden made two such remarks in just over a minute: he implied US troops will go into Ukraine, and he called Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin (standing in the background) the Secretary of State. (Yes Mr Biden, there is a difference!) See and hear for yourself:
For weeks, Biden has said no troops would go into Ukraine. (Heck, he hasn’t even sent significant weapons to Ukraine!) Thus, he and the White House staff later hustled to “walk back” that comment, stating Biden “really didn’t mean that.”
If that was not bad enough, Joe Biden later gave a speech at the Royal Castle in Warsaw Poland. In that speech, he very clearly stated:
“A dictator bent on rebuilding an empire will never erase a people’s love for liberty. Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia — for free people refuse to live in a world of hopelessness and darkness. We will have a different future — a brighter future rooted in democracy and principle, hope and light, of decency and dignity, of freedom and possibilities. For God’s sake, this man [Putin] cannot remain in power.”~Politico.com, accessed 3/28/2022, emphasis mine (Quoted remarks begin at :47 mark)
What began as a respectable speech suddenly went off the rails when Biden apparently went off script in his declaration that Putin must be ousted from power! Again, the White House staff shifted into panic mode to quickly get on air to tell the American public what Biden really meant. (UPDATE: Later, Joe Biden complicated things even further when he announced he does not regret saying that and believe it personally, though it is not American policy. So, is he not in charge of American policy?)
The point here is that when leaders and their staffs talk out of both sides of their mouths, the public never knows what to believe. If that were the only concern with our sitting president, it would be bad. But, unfortunately, Biden has proven to display multiple concerning things besides “misspeaking” at critical moments on the world stage.
Folks, our world is leaderless. But, what did we expect the end times to look like? A careful read of Scripture tells us a lawless one will arise (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12), and it will be a time when everyone is looking for leadership…someone with a plan to rescue the earth from the turmoil that has overtaken it.
We are clearing seeing the entire earth be overtaken with turmoil. Russia, Iran, China and North Korea are either already on rampages, or are threatening to be. Lack of world leadership from the US and everywhere else will open the door wide for those tyrant nations to fulfill evil schemes. Furthermore, economies around the world are being significantly shaken right now. Expect that to become more severe. Then, there are earthquakes and other weather events increasing in frequency and severity.
May I remind you these are all things Jesus told His disciples would characterize the last days? Check out Matthew 24, where, after providing those details, Jesus goes on to describe the tribulation, the coming of the Son of Man, and the Rapture! Verses 36-44 encourage us of a day when believers will be snatched away to meet Him in the air, while others are left on this tumultuous planet.
Believers, our hope is not in Joe Biden! He is simply the man God has placed here at this time of history to accomplish His purposes! Nor is our hope in the 2022 or 2024 elections. It is not in anything other than our Lord Jesus Christ! We are to be living righteously in the midst of this messed up world, looking for the Blessed Hope and the appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ! (Titus 2:11-15) He is our Hope, so put your faith and trust there!
