Hi friends! Last Sunday I began this series entitled Nations United by Prayer. In an age when radical leftists are working to force their ideologies on us, I see it as a spiritual battle, not a political one. However, it is most definitely playing out in the political arena in both the US and Israel.
Ephesians 6:12 succinctly sums up the spiritual battle we face:
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
So, between now and the US Presidential election in November, I join multitudes of other Christian leaders calling for prayer because we must meet the enemy where the enemy is: in the spiritual realm.
Today, we consider the question, “Why should we pray for our country?” America stands strong because of the foundation upon which we were built. However, the foundation is crumbling quickly, and only when God’s people do the business we were placed here to do will our country be restored. Each of us (believers) has an obligation to pray for our nation, pray for one another and pray for Israel. (1 Timothy 2:1-5, Ephesians 6:18, Psalm 122:6-9)
When innocent lives are endangered because others don’t like who they are or what they stand for, demonic forces are at work. Those forces are attempting to divide us as a nation and move our Biblically-founded country in a totally opposite direction.
Our friend, Israel, is literally planted upon God’s promises. Not because they always choose to stand upon them, but because God is faithful to His promises, regardless of their actions. Here is a reminder of that:
2 “Had it not been the Lord who was on our side~Psalm 124:2-3
When men rose up against us,
3 Then they would have swallowed us alive,
When their anger was kindled against us
In America, we need the Lord on our side. Those endangered because of their stance will one day be you and me. You see, when demonic forces are at work, right and wrong are irrelevant. Evil forces will attack simply because they don’t like you personally or what you stand for. Look no further than rioters in the streets.
Why should we pray for our country? Because we need it…and the only answer to what plagues America is Jesus Christ! No politician or political party can restore America. If restoration is to happen, it MUST be done by God. Our responsibility, dear believers, is to join the effort in prayer, asking our Lord to change hearts and minds. Only He can do that!
Prayer points for this week:
- [If] My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14) It is a promise to Israel, but a principle we should heed. Peace in the streets will not come because rioters stop rioting, but big things happen when we call upon the Name of our Lord! He is able to heal our land when we humble ourselves and pray! On behalf of our nation, let’s ask Him to forgive our self-sufficiency and draw our nation to Him.
- First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. (1 Timothy 2:1-2) Pray for our leaders! The responsibilities of those in office are likely unimaginable for most of us. They need our prayers. Not only is it uplifting to our leaders, but our tranquility and peace depend upon it!
- I shall also grant peace in the land, so that you may lie down with no one making you tremble. I shall also eliminate harmful beasts from the land, and no sword will pass through your land. (Leviticus 26:6) Perhaps it is an obscure verse, but it seems apropos given what has transpired between Israel and UAE! As Israel pursues peace with her Arab neighbors, they may lie down peacefully! Pray for other moderate Arab countries to pursue peace with Israel.
Thank you for participating in this call to prayer for America and Israel…nations united by prayer. Let’s pray fervently in these weeks leading up to the elections in the US. May God’s grace and hand of protection rest upon our land.
