June 7, 1967: IDF Re-Captures Temple Mount!

Despite Israel’s victory in their War of Independence (1948), Temple Mount and the Old City fell under the control of the Jordanian government. It remained that way until the Six Day War, June 5-10, 1967.

It was on June 7, 1967, that Israeli paratroopers broke through the gates of the Old City to retake it. Like Israel’s other wars in the early days of statehood, they were severely out-manned and out-gunned, yet God gave the victory!

Are you facing impossible odds today? Do you feel “out-manned and out-gunned,” and standing on the edge of defeat? Perhaps the world has beaten you up and you are weary. The same God who gave the victory to those IDF soldiers 53 years ago has a message for you today:

“Had it not been the Lord who was on our side,”
Let Israel now say,
“Had it not been the Lord who was on our side
When men rose up against us,
Then they would have swallowed us alive,
When their anger was kindled against us;
Then the waters would have engulfed us,
The stream would have swept over our soul;
Then the raging waters would have swept over our soul.”
Blessed be the Lord,
Who has not given us to be torn by their teeth.
Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the trapper;
The snare is broken and we have escaped.
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.

~Psalm 124:

Indeed, if not for the Lord who is on our side, we would all perish! Praise God for His faithfulness to you today!
