America has been a fierce ally of the Kurds who have fought side-by-side with US forces against ISIS and other rogue regimes in that part of Syria. Thus, given what little we know, this is alarming news, as it seems to send the wrong message to American allies, and it leaves the oilfields of northern Syria in jeopardy of takeover by either Turkey or ultimately Russia.
It is my prayer there is much more behind this, and that the White House has a definitive plan to continue supporting our allies in the region. However, my gut tells me, with all the distractions on the domestic front, President Trump may be loosening much-needed American military effort in that region.
It is too early to tell what ramifications may come. However, this seems to be another small detail in stage setting for the northern invasion described in Ezekiel 38. America is not mentioned (either in modern or ancient terms) in that passage, and we know the Israel will stand alone in the end.
Syria is the staging ground for that invasion, which includes Russia, Iran, and Turkey, likely supported by Sudan and Libya. (See Identifying the Northern Invaders) Thus, news of our day should come as no surprise to those of us who believe the Bible is more accurate than even today’s news!
No one wants to see war in the Middle East (or anywhere else, for that matter). However, the Bible tells us it will come. We may pray for delay or reprieve, but eventually, God’s Word will prove true, as it always does. Therefore, as believers in Jesus Christ and His Word, our response is to be ready. The Bible tells us we will ultimately be saved from the wrath that is to come. (1 Thessalonians 1:10) I am not saying that will occur before or after the invasion of Gog and Magog (described in Ezekiel), but I do know the tribulation will be the fiercest wrath ever, and from that we will be spared.
But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.~Jesus, in Luke 21:28
