Bible students who view world events through the lens of Scripture realize the stage is being set for the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38. The prophet recorded a future event in which a Russian czar will lead a coalition against Israel to “capture spoil and seize plunder” (verse 12).
Careful study of the people groups mentioned in Ezekiel 38 are identified as Russia (Rosh, Meshech, Tubal), Iran (Persia), Ethiopia and Put (likely the areas of Sudan and Eritrea, and Libya and Algeria), Gomer and Beth-Togarmah (likely the general area of Turkey). (See Who’s Who Among Northern Invaders)
In recent years, we have witnessed Russia working very closely with Iran to develop military equipment and nuclear power, and Turkey now becoming more and more committed to the Russians. However, rarely do we see a connection between Gog of Magog (the Russian leader) and Sudan/Eritrea and/or Libya/Algeria. So, what is their role, and why don’t we see much on the news regarding that portion of the alliance?
Well, I’m glad you asked! Just recently the Gatestone Institute put the spotlight precisely upon a budding relationship between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir as the two engaged in a “draft military agreement.” (See Russia Moves in on Sudan)
Keep your eyes peeled, my friends! Russia, Iran and Turkey are already knit together in an alliance, and all that is left to ignite the northern invasion Ezekiel 38 predicts is the alignment of Sudan/Eritrea and Libya/Algeria with that Russian-led invasion. That seems to be on the horizon as well!
But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.~Luke 21:28
