Hi friends! It’s the first Wednesday of February, which means people from around the globe are standing united in prayer for Israel! Are you a watchman on the wall? (Isaiah 62:6) If so, today’s your day! If not…why not?
Psalm 122 commands us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. That word peace in Hebrew is shalom. We are to pray for the shalom of Israel. If you ask Christians the meaning of shalom, most will say “peace,” and they would be right, but might lack depth of understanding.
In Hebrew, shalom not only means peace, but it is also a greeting. When in Israel, if you don’t know what to say, just say “shalom!” (You will have said “hello” and wished that person peace!)
But shalom also means wholeness, completeness. To pray for the peace of Jerusalem, we also pray for the wholeness and completeness of Jerusalem! That is what God calls us to do!
So, join the global movement! The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem provides specific prayer requests each month in conjunction with this initiative. They also rally individuals and groups to pray each first Wednesday. You will find prayer requests and more information here.
For those of you in the Phoenix area, please join the Isaiah 62 Prayer Group at 6:00pm (first Wednesday of every month). We meet for 45 minutes at Calvary PHX, Room 301 (north side of campus). All are welcome.
