Hi friends! I hope you have followed the past two days, as today’s post ties this mini-series together. We’re talking about the three-fold call of God upon Israel, through the Abrahamic Covenant. If you missed the first two, find them here:
The Covenant with Abraham was essential not only to the birth of the Jewish people, but to our salvation as well. Had Abraham failed to follow God’s call, there would be no Jews and, thus, no Messiah. But the call was difficult. There was (and continues to be) suffering for Abraham and his descendents. But Abraham did not fail. In fact, he also fulfilled a priestly call.
Please read the account of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 22:1-13. In that passage:
- God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac.
- Abraham obeyed immediately by taking Isaac to Mount Moriah as instructed.
- Isaac carried the wood of the sacrifice up the hill.
- Though Abraham obediently placed Isaac on the altar, God stopped the sacrifice and provided a ram, with his horns caught in a thicket, instead.
Abraham fulfilled a priestly duty that mirrored and gave us a picture of the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus. He, too, was a son offered as a sacrifice. Just as Isaac carried the wood for the sacrifice, Jesus carried His own sacrificial cross. The crown of thorns worn by our Savior was illustrated by the sacrificial ram caught in a thicket, wearing a thorny crown (of sorts).
Now, remember our idea regarding God throwing open the curtains to allow Abraham to see into the future? Well, here again, it is very likely that God gave Abraham a picture that we may have never thought of. Consider John 8:56:
Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.
What day did Abraham see? On Mount Moriah, did he see Calvary’s hill? Did he see a wooden cross? Did he see a crown of thorns? Though he physically looked at his son, Isaac, did he see the Messiah? Perhaps the day that Abraham saw was the day of redemption for the whole world!
He was glad…and we should be too! God’s plan will prevail, despite hovering vultures and every evil attempt to thwart that plan!
God’s call upon Israel, through the Abrahamic Covenant, is a birthing call, a suffering call and a priestly call! Now we see the picture!
Yes amen. It is real that our God displayed what would happen later date.
How powerfull our God is, He knows what we do not know, He called Abraham and gave him land and generation.
His people will lived on land that our God gave it to Abraham and Jews rightfully own Israel, that is the point. Your God is our God, your people are our people, your trouble is our trouble that when leaders arround the Globe doing all sorts of things to distroy God’s real people affect us christian srround the world.
God love you much in teaching me and my people.
Once again Shalom
