It is reported that Chief Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead this morning. Apparently on a hunting trip to South Texas, Justice Scalia died in his sleep.
Scalia was the longest serving Justice on the Supreme Court, appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986. He was known as perhaps the strongest and most steadfast conservative voice on the Court, thus this is potentially a very strong blow to conservatives. Currently the Supreme Court is composed of 5 justices considered conservative, and 4 liberal justices.
Justices are appointed by the President and must be confirmed by the Senate. Given the liberal agenda of the current administration, expect a liberal nominee by the President, though it may be very difficult to get approval of a nominee prior to a new President taking office in January 2017.
Friends, the stakes just rose even higher for this year’s election. As you know, conservative values are being eaten up right and left by both court decisions and legislation. Should a liberal Justice be appointed and confirmed, the balance will shift decidedly liberal. If that happens, we can expect further deterioration of Christian values in our country.
We must respond in at least two ways:
- Pray! Our country is at a critical crossroads. Will we slide “beyond the point of no return,” or might America find blessing by once again acknowledging God? A great way to join thousands of other concerned Americans is to join with Franklin Graham in prayer for each state in the nation. Check out the Decision America Tour and PRAY!
- Vote your values! Believers, stand up this election season. That means know the candidates and where they stand, then vote with a Biblical bias! Let’s take responsibility to do what is right…for the sake of our country and our future, and for the sake of the Name of the Lord our God!
