With the Syrian civil war dragging on, with ISIS continuing its rampage throughout the Middle East, and with the Iranian nuclear talks hogging headlines, there is another story developing that is worth noting.
After Hosni Mubarak was ousted in Egypt during the Egyptian “Arab Spring,” rigged elections put Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood into power. By God’s grace, wise military leaders in Egypt saw the dangerous direction the Muslim Brotherhood was taking Egypt, and they wrangled power from them. Today, one of those military leaders, Abdel Fatah al-Sissi, is President of Egypt and has been faithful not only to uphold the peace treaty with Israel, but to stand as a rational voice in the Middle East. He is a reformer. (See Radicals, Reformers and Revivalists)
Sissi has boldly stood up to radical Islamists and has spoken out against their jihadist mentality. When the US turned its back on Egypt due to the military coup, Egypt was forced to seek aid in the form of military equipment from Russia. Still, when questioned about the US actions, Sissi restrains himself from criticizing America. In even bolder form, Sissi has reached out to Israel in partnership (such as negotiating a ceasefire to end Operation Protective Edge after many failed US attempts), and in cooperation (such as joining forces to combat terrorism). Sissi has proven to be a friend of Israel.
Granted, Sissi sees his country on the verge of potential collapse, and is in need of support from neighboring countries. (See Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sissi, who talks to Netanyahu ‘a lot,’ says his country is in danger of collapse) But it is interesting that he is reaching out to the Jewish state…not so much to other Muslim nations.
Most recently, ISIS has taken to firing off rockets into Israel from both the Gaza Strip and the Egyptian-controlled Sinai Peninsula. In cooperation with Israel, Sissi is working to capture and defeat Islamic terrorists in the Sinai Peninsula, as Sissi sees ISIS as a common threat to both Egypt and Israel. Here’s a recent report on the rocket-firing episode:
Once again, we see precursors to the fulfillment of Bible prophecy! We know other things will happen prior, but in the last days we know that God has a prophetic destiny for Egypt…one that may very well surprise you! Take the time to read and study Egypt’s Prophetic Destiny (or study Isaiah 19 for yourself).
Believers, it is important to view world events through the lens of Scripture. Everything we see today…from Syria, to ISIS, to Iran, to Egypt and beyond…are all part of God’s plan for end times. We simply need to be aware of the Biblical significance! My purpose is to help bring world events into Biblical view. Be blessed as you spend time in study!
