Iranian Nuclear Negotiations Extended until July 7

In breaking news from Vienna, the Iranian nuclear talks have been extended until July 7 “to allow more time for negotiations to reach a long-term solution.”  Meanwhile, according to NBC News, President Obama will “walk away from the negotiations if, in fact, its a bad deal.”

Only time will tell how this major world event will play out.  However, after over two years of negotiations and a “framework deal” reached in April, I question why a self-imposed deadline must once again be extended.  Both sides know what the issues are and where their limits are.  Why not remain steadfast to the deadline, then walk away if agreement cannot be made?  What new pieces of information could possibly arise in an extra week of negotiations?

With details of the “framework deal” not so favorable to Israel and western interests already, we can hardly afford to give the hard-driving Iranians additional time to press for concessions we cannot afford.  Layer that on top of the fact that the current US administration is so hungry for a “legacy” deal that they are vulnerable to almost anything, and we have the makings of a very bad deal.

But believers, this lines up with what the Bible tells us will happen in the last days!  In the end, ALL nations will turn against Israel.  Likewise, America is on a slippery slope morally and economically, providing reason why we will not be a major player in end time events.

Praise God that, as Christ followers, our great hope is not in the steadfastness of America or in the strength and might of our nation, our leaders, or ourselves!  Our Great Hope is the Lord Jesus Christ, and He rules and reigns as much today as ever!  Yes, Christians around the world may be in for some difficult days, but the Bible tells us that we will be saved from the wrath to come!  One day soon our Lord will descend from the highest heaven and we will go to “meet Him in the air!” Let us, therefore, be comforted!  (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
