Wow…what a difference a day makes!  Going into the elections, Netanyahu’s Likud party was thought (by pre-election polls) to be on the ropes in their race against Zionist Union.  Polls just prior to Tuesday’s election had ZU leading Likud by at least 4 seats (a significant advantage).

As exit polls began to be released after the polls closed in Israel, it appeared that Likud had pulled even with Zionist Union.  In fact, here is the graph that was making news:

However, Israel is awakening to shocking news this morning!  Here are the headlines:

With almost all votes counted, Likud now holds a 29-24 seat lead over Zionist Union.  Are we seeing a miracle?  Is God honoring the prayers of His people?

One thing for sure: President Obama may be the most disappointed person on the planet.  (Ok, maybe equal to radical Islamic leaders who also undoubtedly wanted Netanyahu unseated.)  Unfortunately, the ice-cold relations between Israel and the White House will likely freeze solid.

Also, keep in mind that, just because a party gains the most votes in an election does not necessarily mean they totally “win.”  The winning party is tasked with forming a majority coalition.  That means 61 seats in the 120-member Knesset.  It will be incumbent upon Netanyahu to cobble together a coalition of parties to reach the magic number of 61 required to form the new government.  Please continue to pray for wisdom for Israeli leaders.  There are plenty of challenges ahead for Israel and wisdom from the Lord is crucial.

You prayed through the election…and I believe the Lord blessed.  Let’s not stop now.  Let’s pray that God will grant Israel the very best government to face the challenges ahead.  Meanwhile, praise God for what appears to be a true election miracle!
