Very Sad Days in America…Are We Inching toward Implosion?

Over the past two days the US Supreme Court (by refusing to hear cases, thereby shirking their duty to settle issues of national importance) and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (by totally disregarding the voice of voters) have seemingly paved the way for same sex marriage.  As a nation, America is spiraling out of control, and is morally “circling the drain.”  We are calling good evil, and evil good.

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;
Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
~Isaiah 5:20

Granted, I realize sin has been around for as long as there have been human beings, and the point here is not to debate the issue of gay marriage.  The Bible clearly speaks of the issue.  (Genesis 2:22-24; Leviticus 18:22, 29-30; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10; and elsewhere)   The point is that, when we call evil good, and good evil, Scripture warns that woe is upon us.

The apostle Paul, in his letters to Timothy, warned that things such as lawlessness, rebellion, ungodliness, immorality, homosexuality and many other banes of society are contrary to sound teaching.  (1 Timothy 1:8-11)  Then, he went on in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 to relate the same sorts of unrighteousness to the difficult times that will come in the last days.  He stated:

For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.

~2 Timothy 3:2-5

Friends, the courts of our land are calling evil good, and good evil.  Therefore, we are seeing the rise of immorality as humans are becoming lovers of self, lacking self-control, and becoming lovers of pleasure.  As in ancient days, every man is doing what is right in his own eyes (Judges 17:6, Judges 21:25), and it is being called “good” by our courts.

Jesus gave His disciples this admonition when they asked him for signs of the last days:

Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near; so, you too, when you see all these things [signs of last days], recognize that He is near, right at the door.

~Matthew 24:32-33

Indeed, Jesus is right at the door!  Will America remain strong until the day of His coming, or will we implode?  I dare say that, short of another Great Awakening, our country is in great jeopardy of imploding.  God cannot and will not honor immorality and rebellion.  May I challenge us all to do two very important things?

  1. Pray! Though the promises are specifically for Israel, I believe God is fully capable of honoring the principle of 2 Chronicles 7:14 on behalf of America if we humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways.  Let’s repent on behalf of our nation.
  2. Vote your values! Our problems are NOT solely the result of poor government, and I don’t believe that our problems can be totally solved by politicians.  However, as believers, it is our obligation to elect Godly leaders if we are to be led in Godly ways.  Vote for those who uphold moral values.

Meanwhile, let’s keep looking for the Blessed Hope!  Maranatha, Lord come quickly!
