The Garden Tomb

Over the past couple days we have considered where the Cross of Calvary and Jesus’ burial took place.  We ran conflicting locations through 8 of the 9-part “test.”  Today, we’ll touch on that last test: Jesus was buried in a garden.

The “traditional” site (held primarily by more liturgical Christian groups) is beneath the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.  Most evangelical Christians view Golgotha and the Garden Tomb as the most likely place of Jesus’ death and burial.

Today, we simply focus on the fact that Jesus died for us and was buried in a borrowed tomb of a wealthy man named Joseph of Arimathea.  That tomb was in a Garden.  Contemplate these passages as you browse the pictures below from the Garden.

Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.  For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.  ~1 Corinthians 15:1-4

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.  ~2 Corinthians 5:21

This seems to be the most peaceful place in all of Israel!  Why….?  Because Jesus died and was buried here for the sins of the world.  Our sin died here!  Furthermore, Jesus didn’t stay in that tomb!  Come back tomorrow for the good news!
