My, how quickly the American political landscape changes. Not so long ago, President Trump seemed the most committed president in history when it came to appropriately standing with Israel. Now, it is difficult to know day-to-day where he stands. One day he’s calling Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu “f—- crazy” for retaliating against Hezbollah and another day seeming to support Israel’s effort to drive out Iran’s strongest terror proxy (Hezbollah). I want to believe that he remains a strong supporter of Israel, and I pray for that daily.
On the campaign trail, JD Vance appeared to stand for strong Biblical principles, yet he has been the tip of the spear in trying to negotiate with Israel’s most existentially threatening enemy. He seems to have drifted even further from support of Israel to “make peace at whatever cost” (including throwing Israel under the bus). Again, I want to believe that Vance understands the appropriate support of Israel, and I pray for him daily as well.
However, as I’ve watched closely and scrutinized carefully, there seems to be a strong voice of reason: Marco Rubio. From his clear Gospel presentation at Charlie Kirk’s funeral, to his unwavering comments regarding Israel’s right to defend themselves, to his belief that families are the backbone of society, he appears to be strongly committed to Biblical principles.
Several months ago, he participated in a sit-down interview with Pastor Greg Laurie to discuss his faith and how it guides him in his role as US Secretary of State. He also clearly articulated the job of government and the part our faith should play. Watch it for yourself and make your own determination:
Regardless of your take on Marco Rubio, be reminded that no human being is perfect, and our faith and trust should never be placed in a person, but in the Lord God Himself. However, when we have good, strong Christian leaders, our religious freedom is preserved and our nation flourishes.
The job of our Secretary of State is to guide foreign policy. Yet, Rubio seems to be overshadowed in the foreign policy arena as VP JD Vance has been thrust into the limelight as the point man in negotiations with Iran. Both Vance and Rubio have been put forth as potential presidential candidates in 2028. As we move toward that important election, be on the lookout for which of the two (and others) take the strongest Biblically based positions on issues. It is too early to declare one over the other as the best candidate, but we are getting early signs.
Pray for our leaders. Our nation is in dire need of strong, principled leaders and all face very trying obstacles. In this case, both men (Vance and Rubio) profess belief in Jesus Christ. Praise God for that. But our desire should be for the most Godly leaders we can elect, and where they stand with Israel is certainly a vital issue. Be in prayer and keep an eye out to determine who consistently stands strong in their commitment to the truth of God’s Word!
