Happy Birthday, America!
As we celebrate this grand accomplishment, it is important to understand America’s unique greatness. Our Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the founding of our nation. Twelve years later (1788), the US Constitution was officially adopted, setting forth the framing of our government. A republic…if you can keep it.
For 238 years we have kept it! That is miraculous, given the average lifespan of other constitutions worldwide is only 17 years.
What sets America apart? It is our Biblical foundation and the gracious hand of God. Indeed, America was established as a Christian nation, providing us liberty and freedom for all these years.
For that, we should be eternally grateful. But equally, we should be clear-eyed about our future if America turns her back on the God who has so faithfully blessed us. Today, as you celebrate America’s 250th birthday, consider how we are to stand firm in the liberty and freedom given to us.
Finally friends, if you have no plans of celebration today, I encourage you to tune in to the I Love America celebration from Calvary Chapel Chino Hills. Not only is it very patriotic, including a very moving tribute to public servants and the military (beginning at the 30:55 mark), but also provides Biblical encouragement to return to dependence upon the One who birthed our nation. Be encouraged!
Happy 4th of July!
PS: Today is a great day to re-read America’s Declaration of Independence and Constitution.
