In a last-minute move prior to President Trump’s threat to attack Iran’s infrastructure, Iran agreed to a ceasefire yesterday. The $64,000 question: Will they abide by it?

Though Trump has proclaimed a “golden age of the Middle East,” I must admit I’m a bit skeptical. The 2-week ceasefire includes agreements for both sides to cease rocket fire and bombing, and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Within minutes of reaching the agreement, Iran fired multiple missiles at Israel. Iran’s history of “agreeing” to terms then immediately breaking the agreement is overwhelmingly typical for them. They consistently say one thing and do another.

Iranians are also masters at dragging feet, tying up peace processes and buying time to re-build, re-arm, and re-constitute. They have proven (via their proxies) to “agree” to ceasefires, then use the lack of military pressure to their advantage.

For those reasons alone, I hold significant skepticism that they will abide by the agreement.

But regardless of those reasons, there is a much more significant reason to doubt Iran’s commitment. God’s Word reveals that Iran will be a major player in end time events. In fact, Shia Islam end times theology leaves no room for Iran to be anything but hostile and antagonistic toward Israel. Ezekiel 38 tells us clearly that Iran will partner with Russia, Turkey and other minor players to attack Israel. They will not give up on their ultimate goal: create chaos and destroy the infidels (those who don’t agree with them, primarily Israel and the US). That will not change.

So, what’s next? No one has a crystal ball, but let’s surmise a moment, knowing what we know from current events seen through the lens of God’s Word.

• Will Iran immediately break the ceasefire? (Technically, they broke it within minutes when they fired rockets toward Israel.)
• Will the destruction imposed on Iran force them into the arms of Russia and Turkey?
• If Iran breaks the ceasefire, or comes to no final agreement once the 2 weeks are up, will President Trump and the American public have the stomach to re-engage?
• According to Ezekiel 38:11, Israel will be a peaceful people dwelling in safety when the northern invasion (led by Russian, Iran and Turkey) occurs. Is this the precursor to those allies aligning?

Friends, the table of Bible prophecy is being set and we are witnessing it. Regardless of whether or not the ceasefire holds, Iran will survive and will be a thorn in Israel’s side.

Personally, I can hardly wait for the time Israel lives in safety and security. What an awesome season to lead tours to Israel! However, that season may not last long, as Russia, Iran, and Turkey plot to destroy the infidels.

Continue to pray, Jesus followers! Psalm 122 teaches us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and Isaiah 62 exhorts us to give God no rest until He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth. Seems impossible, but we’re told to prayerfully expect it! Let’s be faithful to those admonitions!
