Oh my! We are on a slippery slope in Christendom here in America. Not only do we read our Bibles less, attend church fewer times, and engage in prayer less often than in decades past, but we also have false teaching and poor theology plaguing us. We desperately need a return to God’s Word and to fellowship with God’s people.
In a recent Bible study, we touched on the fallacies of Replacement Theology (ie – the Jews rejected Jesus so all the promises God made to Israel now belong to the church). We have also allowed politics to run the church, as parts of America have swung toward allowing homosexual clergy, failing to denounce abortion, and pandering to the radical left in many ways.
But one thing that has baffled me for decades is the acceptance of Halloween in churches and amongst conservative influencers. Currently, there is a very well-known conservative podcaster (professing to be a Christian) pushing the narrative that Halloween is a Christian holiday. This podcaster cites ancient All Saints Day, a day of honor for the passing of saints as the basis for Christian roots. Perhaps it sounds noble, but I believe it is far from it.
Yes, there really was an All Saints Day, but it had to do with honoring the dead! Where in Scripture does God tell us to do that!?! For believers, death is but an entryway into the presence of Jesus! We celebrate THAT, not the death of saints. Furthermore, particularly as we know it today, Halloween is a dark holiday, considered by Satanists as their high holy day. Why on earth would we try to make that into a Christian holiday?
Paul, as he spoke to the Ephesians, warned them of this:
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.
~Ephesians 5:8-11
Friends, no matter how you slice it, Halloween is the darkest day of the year. Disgustingly, Halloween has become the second most popular holiday (just behind Christmas) for decorating, and it leads to scenes such as this (in my own neighborhood):

Those are dead babies at the feet of an evil witch! I’m sorry, but when evil witches blatantly and overtly celebrate baby killing, it is a sign that Satan worship is alive and well…and Halloween is his high holy day. He loves this culture of death.
Friends, I encourage you to bypass Halloween. Take your kids somewhere fun and give them all the candy they want! Just don’t expose them to Satan’s evil. Evil singes the soul.
To churches who participate in Halloween via trunk-or-treat, Halloween festivals, or anything that invites evil on to your campus, I urge you to re-think the message you are sending to young people.
I’ve heard all the arguments about “outreach,” etc. There are 364 other days in the year to do outreach. What are you doing on those days?
Friends, churches and conservative podcasters or other influencers, as Paul asserted, “Do not participate in the deeds of darkness.” We live in a day and age in which sharing the Gospel of Jesus is so important. Let’s not wreck our witness by dabbling in Satan’s sandbox!
