Well Done Charlie Kirk!

Yesterday was a tragic day for America.  We lost a modern American warrior who was not afraid to share his faith.  Nor was he bashful in his defense of America’s Declaration of Independence, Constitution, or values.

Charlie Kirk influenced millions of Americans, both young and old, but had a particularly strong influence on young people. It is no secret that his push to influence America’s youth toward strong conservative values likely won Trump the Presidency in 2024.

He stood before hostile college groups, invited those who opposed him to come to the front of the line and challenge him with any thought or question on any subject they desired. Whether it was religion, politics or social issues, he allowed them to speak their mind while also defending his conservative position. Often, he won over young minds.

That’s what he was doing when he was shot dead on a college campus yesterday.

Being blessed to live in Phoenix, where Turning Point USA is headquartered, I’ve had the privilege of meeting Charlie and being in the room for dozens of events. Charlie was the real deal.  I received word within 5 minutes of the tragedy. Soon, my phone exploded for hours with messages of sheer grief, undeniable heartache, and hopelessness. In the midst of grief and uncertainty, many asked “Who will ever replace Charlie?”

The answer: no one. Charlie Kirk was uniquely gifted and called by God, and no one else was called or gifted to be Charlie Kirk. Rather, we must all step up to the plate to carry on the legacy he left. Charlie’s work on this earth is finished. Our work is not. Don’t try to be Charlie Kirk, but DO be determined to pick up the mantle God has uniquely called you to.

You may not agree with everything Charlie Kirk said or did. (I didn’t, and voiced it recently.) That is okay! Charlie was all about cordial debate of differing views. Yet, we are all responsible to share the Gospel, engage appropriately in civic affairs, and defend conservative values, in all of which Charlie excelled and left a legacy.

Finally, Jack Hibbs was a close personal friend and mentor to Charlie Kirk. I implore you to hear Pastor Jack’s tribute and his challenge to us all.
