In God’s economy, there are no “coincidences!” Our great God is not only sovereign, but is ruler over time and space. He guides and directs in the affairs of man, and of all His creation! Thus, there are no coincidences…just God-ordained instances that happen to be peculiar!

One such instance occurred this past Tuesday (September 2, 2025). Belgium’s Vice-prime minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxime Prevot, announced Belgium will officially recognize the “Palestinian state” during this month’s UN General Assembly meeting. Prevot also indicated that, following that recognition, Belgium’s intent is to impose harsh sanctions against Israel, citing this reasoning:

“in light of the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Palestine, particularly in Gaza, and in response to the violence perpetrated by Israel in violation of international law.”

Belgium has criticized Israel’s operations in Gaza and is a fountain of antisemitism.

Meanwhile, as that news broke, so did news of Israel’s victory into the Round of 16 of EuroBasket 2025, an elite European basketball competition. The defeated opponent? Belgium!

The upset victory came on the heels of Israel’s big upset victory over France a few days prior. BTW, in case you haven’t noticed, France is no friend or ally of Israel either! Thus, 2 great victories over opponents whose nations have little regard for the Jewish state!

In the scheme of wars and rumors of wars, basketball victories may not be any big thing…except that God is privy to even the smallest details of our lives. Were Israel’s upset victories coincidental? Not at all!

Let’s hope they are also prophetic! May these “small” victories parlay into larger ones in the world of antisemitism.
