The Bible gives us plenty of warning about what the last days will be like. 2 Timothy 3 describes perilous times, including a laundry list of depraved actions taken by man. We see evidence of it every day, but some days provide a close up look at evil that churns the gut of those desiring to follow Jesus.
Such was the case when I saw the filth disguised as “entertainment” in the new, updated version of Jesus Christ Superstar. The original version was blasphemous enough, but the depths of depravity oozing from the latest version are beyond imagination. Click on the button below to find out what I’m talking about. (You need a subscription to Real Life Network to view the video. It is free, and it is chalk full of clean, family-oriented entertainment. The link below takes you to Real Life News where they reveal what is behind the making of this abominable production.)
Of course, this new musical is only one of multiple daily examples we can point to when it comes to depravity. God’s Word predicted this kind of evil. Open your Bible and read Romans 1:18-32 and let’s make some application.
In verses 18-23, we are told in no uncertain terms that the wrath of God is poured out on ungodliness and unrighteousness. God’s attributes are clearly known and there is no excuse for failure to glorify Him. But some become futile in thoughts and foolish in heart, denying the glory of God.
Thus:
- God gives them up to uncleanness, lust, and dishonor. They worship the created rather than the Creator. (verses 24-25)
- God gives them up to vile passions. Specifically, God warns of homosexuality among the unrighteousness of the last days. (verses 26-27)
- God gives them over to a debased mind. They are filled with things such as unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness; and are haters of God, proud, inventors of evil things. In the harshest way possible, God says they are deserving of death. (verses 28-32)
When I lay that horrific musical against the backdrop of God’s Word in Romans 1, how stark the reality of their evil. Uncleanness, lust and dishonor abound as a proud gay woman portrays our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The vile passions of homosexuality expressed in the musical are beyond comprehension, and who can argue against the fact minds of those associated with the production are debased and filled with wickedness?
My friends, this is the world we live in today. Wickedness is rampant and evil waits around every corner to ensnare us.
What is the antidote to counter the poisonous culture in which we live? God’s Word. If you are not in it every day, I encourage you to build that habit by intentionally carving out time there. Start small by choosing a short epistle (Ephesians, for example) and reading and meditating on a few verses. Begin with only 5-10 minutes and work your way to longer times of fellowship in God’s Word. You will never regret spending the time, and you will learn just how faithful God is to speak to you in those special times.
Determine not to put yourself in a place in which God gives you over….
