What We Fail to Understand about America…and How it Relates to Our Jewish Roots

Hi friends! A couple weeks ago Charlie Kirk delivered a fantastic message regarding God’s great gift of liberty to America. As I listened, I was struck by two things: What it took to secure independence for our beloved nation and how grateful we should be that our Christian roots are buried deeply in Judaism.

Charlie’s 36-minute message below includes so many stark reminders of the price paid to win America’s freedom. During one segment, Charlie rattles off many patriots who risked everything they had to fight for our nation. Fresh in my mind are also scenes from an old movie I saw recently. The Patriot accurately depicts the violent brutality of what those early patriots endured to separate from religious tyranny of the British crown. Our nation was purchased through unimaginable blood and sacrifice.

Take time this week to hear Charlie’s belated Independence Day commentary and consider the cost those early patriots paid to establish our great land.

But beyond that, I have to ask: Where did our founding fathers get the notion that our inalienable rights as Americans are given by God and not by government? Is it even possible the founding of America would have happened without the almighty wisdom of God driving our forefathers toward the laws of Moses and the grace of Jesus? Without strong faith that God would get them through, it seems impossible those early warriors would have made it through the sheer brutality of The Revolutionary War.

The concepts of God’s sovereignty, sanctity of life and of marriage, and even the idea of borders and our responsibility to defend them are all Old Testament principles set forth as far back as the Jewish exodus from Egypt and before.

The more I study God’s Word, the more convinced I am that Israel and the church are inextricably linked. Granted, America is not such a “Christian nation” anymore, but there is no denying that our founding fathers evoked the knowledge, wisdom and sovereignty of God in establishing our one-of-a-kind constitutional republic.

For those interested in learning more about that inextricable link that makes Israel and the church so important, consider joining us for an introductory lesson on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Momentum Church (behind the Century 21 office) at 6:30pm. A more in-depth 6-week study will follow on Tuesday nights, beginning September 16. It is open to adults and young people junior high and above. Hope to see you there!
