American companies purchasing Israeli tech companies is nothing new! Dating back to at least the dot com boom, multi-billion-dollar deals have been fairly regular. But nothing comes close to the record-smashing $32 billion purchase of Wiz by Google. It more than doubles the purchase price of the next largest acquisition, that of Mobileye, purchased by Intel for just over $15 billion in 2017.
Wiz, a cloud security company, was founded in 2020 and its value ballooned to almost $2 billion in its first year. That was only the beginning of its meteoric 5-year rise in value, resulting in Google’s purchase.
No nation on earth rivals Israel’s per capita start-up numbers. In addition, Israel is a world leader in technology and hosts R&D facilities for the largest American tech companies. It is beyond amazing how innovative a tiny nation can become when it is constantly under threat from unfriendly neighbors! It is said, “Necessity is the mother of innovation.” That is no more true than in Israel!
Because of necessity, and due to incredible ingenuity, Israel leads the world (per capita) in innovation and start-ups. Here’s a look at the 10 largest Israel sell-offs:
- Wiz’s acquisition by Google – $32 billion in 2025 (cloud storage technology)
- Mobileye’s acquisition by Intel – $15.3 billion in 2017 (autonomous driving technology)
- Mellanox Technologies’ acquisition by Nvidia – $6.9 billion in 2020 (data center computing solutions)
- NDS Group’s acquisition by Cisco – $5 billion in 2012 (video and content delivery technology)
- Chromatis Networks’ acquisition by Lucent Technologies – $4.5 billion in 2000 (optical networking)
- Mercury Interactive’s acquisition by HP – $4.5 billion in 2006 (business optimization software)
- Galileo Technologies’ acquisition by Marvell – $2.7 billion in 2001 (semiconductor networking)
- Habana Labs’ acquisition by Intel – $2 billion in 2019 (AI hardware)
- Own (formerly OwnBackup) acquisition by Salesforce – $1.9 billion in 2024 (backup and disaster recovery)
- M-Systems’ acquisition by SanDisk – $1.6 billion in 2006 (flash memory)
It is no coincidence that the 10 largest Israeli selloffs have been acquired by American tech giants. It is an indication of the iron-clad cooperation Israel and the US have enjoyed in the business sector. It is also an indicator of just how powerful our two economies can be when we share innovative technology. Much of it is produced in Israel, then launched into greatness via American tech companies.
Praise God for Israeli ingenuity and America’s technological reach, both representing God’s favor. May we not lose sight of that but rather turn toward God’s hand of grace and submit to His Lordship. Our nations will continue to be blessed if we do.
