Jihadist ideology is almost incomprehensible to most of us in the west. It is difficult to wrap our minds around the idea that life has absolutely no value. Likewise, we don’t easily understand how terrorists can claim victory amidst the incredible loss of life and destruction of property and territory. This leads to a paradox that has come to light as Hamas claims victory in Gaza. What is “victory?”
Abdel-massih (not his real name), an Arab follower of Jesus who grew up in the West Bank, recently contributed an opinion piece to All Israel News in which he sheds light on the “false victory” of Hamas in Gaza. In it, Abdel-massih asks many thought-provoking questions and challenges the idea of Palestinian “victory.” Toward the end of the article, he quotes a Gazan who has lost most everything. He seems to understand that the “victory” often touted by jihadists is nothing but destruction to common people.
It is a fascinating commentary with a unique perspective. Read for yourself and make up your own mind about the Palestinian “victory” in Gaza.
