Hi friends! I have an interesting follow up to yesterday’s post. If you missed it, what follows below will not make complete sense.
Yesterday we considered the question, “Is human annihilation ever justified?” You are left to make your own determination, as there is much to consider.
Later yesterday (after that post dropped), Amir Tsarfati posted a very timely comment on Telegram that stated:
This Shabbat in every synagogue around the world, Jews will be reading the weekly portion called "Zachor" ("Remember") from Deuteronomy 25:
"Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you were coming out of Egypt, how he met you on the way and attacked your rear ranks, all the stragglers at your rear, when you were tired and weary; and he did not fear God. Therefore it shall be, when the Lord your God has given you rest from your enemies all around, in the land which the Lord you God is giving you to possess as an inheritance, that you will blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. You shall not forget."
I always find it interesting when the Lord repeats things in our lives. Perhaps we read a passage of Scripture that repeats itself, or that pinpoints a particular thought or idea mulling in our minds. In this case, it is a repeat of a lesser-known portion of Scripture. (I doubt many of us spend much devotional time in Deuteronomy 25!)
We are pointed once again to God’s command to the Israelites to “blot out” an enemy. Throughout history, we see the consequences of Israel’s failure to do so. In essence, the Middle East has been perpetually aflame due to unresolved conflict between the descendants of Isaac and Ishmael, and Jacob and Esau.
That doesn’t mean we have the perfect solution for what Israel should do in this era of history, but it is a reminder of the importance of obedience to God’s Word from the beginning to the end. God’s ways are best, and we are wise to listen intently and obey absolutely.
As the Jewish people read their Torah portion today, may the Lord God of Israel enlighten every mind and grant wisdom on every level. Pray for Israel and her leaders for wisdom. Pray also that foreign leaders will urge them in righteousness according to God’s wisdom and not their own.
