Tuesday morning broke bright and sunny! The rain was gone and the sun spread its rays across the beautiful skies of Ashdod. We were in for a glorious day.
We traveled south to Sderot, which is situated right on Gaza’s northern border. Arriving at City of Life Ministries (and carefully selecting a parking space!), we were greeted by very friendly staff who showed us around the facility before putting us to work.

We were met by Brian, a young Argentine-Israeli man, then by women of the congregation speaking Russian. Their common language is, of course, Hebrew, and most spoke relatively good English, so language was no barrier. With a good understanding of the ministry, we dove into our project, packing food bags for those in need. Again, as service happens, worship happens! What a beautiful time.

There were enough supplies to pack 80 food bags and we made quick work of it! As we finished, a young Russian immigrant entered. The Russian-speaking women of the church greeted her, prayed over her and provided her with a food bag. That provided a moment for which I have waited the entire trip!
Prior to our trip, a friend provided a donation to be given to a woman in need. God sent this young woman to receive that gift, so I made arrangements with the women of the church to bless her with the gift. As we stepped outside, the women explained where the gift came from and why it was being given to her. In parting, I spoke the one Russian phrase Olga taught me the night before, meaning “I give you my blessings.” Tears welled up and the woman was overwhelmed. We avoided photos out of respect for her, but it was such a sweet moment.

Following the work project, we were treated to Israeli pizza…fresh Israeli crust with fresh veggies and spices we have no access to in the US. It was heavenly!
This is a place and a group we will never forget. We were treated with such kindness and the fellowship with the women of the church, and with Brian (the accountant), was such a blessed testimony to the goodness of the Lord.
Those in Sderot endured more than most on October 7. The city was attacked and overtaken by Hamas and hearing first-hand of their experience that dreadful morning was sobering. But it also brought us great joy in understanding God’s protection of them. Many perished, but miracles abound.
We were treated to a tour of the city, including the police station that was totally destroyed, and an overlook into Gaza, literally only a stone’s throw away. Too much to jam into one post, so I’ll prepare a report of that tomorrow. Please check back then!
Meanwhile, we jump in the car at 1am on Wednesday morning for the hour-long drive to the airport, check-in of the rental car, and making sure everyone makes it through security for an ungodly 5am flight. We’ll say good-bye soon and will cherish the memories we have made. I will reflect upon those in the coming days!
Meanwhile, I remain in Israel for a few more days to take care of some tour business and spend time with good friends here in Israel!
Tune in tomorrow for our report on what took place in Sderot on October 7. See you then!
An amazing and blessed report, Kym. Thanking God th
