There is no doubt, October 7 has exacted a tremendous toll on Israel. The impact of brutal psychopaths who raided, raped, tortured, burned and utterly destroyed Jewish families in kibbutzim along the Gaza border made a mark that will likely never fade away. Those savage animals, as well as those who fired rockets at innocent civilians while using their own as human shields, should be eliminated in battle or prosecuted to the furthest extent of international law.

Considering Hebrew history, we know Israel’s spiritual and moral collapse resulted in the destruction of Jerusalem’s first two temples. Though no temple stands in Jerusalem today, could Israel’s current spiritual and moral collapse yield similar results?

While Israel feuded internally, causing diversion of focus, Hamas carried out their vicious plan. The internal feud was fueled by well-funded and very vocal minority who controls mainstream media. Their hill to die on: the spirituality of Israel’s religious population. It seems faith, God, the Tanach (Jewish Scripture), and anything associated with Jews’ and Christians’ faith is responsible for all that ills Israel. Never mind the incredibly strong spiritual connection to the land of Israel.

What do the radical leftists in Israel want? A progressive society, filled with radical liberalism and rampant secularism. Though they say democracy is important, they actually want to destroy it. They are the deep state of Israel.

On October 6, judicial reform was causing riots in the streets, as radicals realized that fixing the country would mean losing control. That issue was drawing attention away from top level politicians, top level military personnel and top level intelligence officers. All were immersed in and distracted by the agenda of the day. Sadly, while leaders were focused on the liberal agenda, Satan’s minions (I believe they were demon possessed) made their move to destroy innocent lives and settlements near the Gaza Strip.

Here is the dilemma: Since God is sovereign, why did He allow the atrocities of October 7? Perhaps it is a difficult question until we consider the responsibility that laid on the shoulders of the Jewish people. Radical leftists were prepared to allow the downfall of their own nation as long as they retained power. There is much responsibility to be laid on the shoulders of those who shook their fists in the face of God rather than submit to His will. After all, it would not be the first time. Scripture is filled with examples of Israel’s rebellion and defeats at the hands of enemies, followed by God’s retribution toward those who go after God’s people.

So, to address the dilemma, yes, God allowed horrible things to occur on October 7. Israel, living in rebellion, is paying a high price. (BTW – the same thing happens to us on a personal level when we rebel.) Ultimately, God will call the Iranian regime and proxies on the carpet for their treatment of Israel. (See Joel 3:1-2) For believers, we have two choices: capitulate to the radical leftist agenda or spit out the poison that is radical leftism. Our most effective weapon is prayer, and our responsibility is to be salt and light to a tasteless and dark world, sharing the Good News of the only One who can reverse the dilemma!

There is hope, and it is not in any government. Our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20) and we can trust in our Sovereign Lord!
