Hi friends! There is something about Israeli culture that intrigues virtually every person who visits the land. Something is different there. True it is the land of Jesus, the disciples, the Bible and so much more. Spiritually speaking, there is nowhere like it, and it is easy to understand what makes Israel different in that regard.
But it goes beyond that. Something in addition to the powerful spiritual context drives the culture forward like nowhere else on earth. It begs questions such as these:
- What causes Israel to be the “startup capital” of the world?
- What causes Israelis to lead the way (per capita) in Nobel peace prizes (by far)?
- How does Israel stand so bravely when confronted with mortal enemies on every side?
- What drives the zest for life that is exhibited in extreme measure and against all odds?
- How does a nation get so much production out of 18-24 year olds?
Might I suggest those qualities are partially forged because of Israel’s mandatory service in the IDF…and the incredible “machine” that pumps out warriors! As stated somewhat eloquently by Aaron Cohen, “Israel is a warrior nation.” Always has been, always will be.
I have carefully watched Aaron Cohen and his growing popularity as an expert in Israeli warfare and am impressed by his ability to speak with clarity and authority. His story is fascinating, but moreover, he is able to put a finger on the pulse and answer the questions posed above.
Recently, he sat down with Erick Staklbeck for one of the most intriguing interviews I’ve heard in a while. Take some time this weekend to enjoy the conversation, and to gain understanding as to what makes Israel tick. Enjoy!
