One of the great accomplishments of the Trump administration was to acknowledge Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. Why is that important? Because the Golan is a buffer between enemies to the north and Israel.
It was because of miraculous victories in 1967 and 1973 that Israel captured and held the Golan Heights. That area is of utmost strategic importance because it is very difficult to protect the low-lying Galilee area if enemies control and attack from the heights overlooking the Galilee. Holding high ground is a huge military advantage.
We know from Ezekiel 38-39 that Israel will one day be attacked by a coalition from the north. When they come over the Golan, they will have significant strategic advantages. In fact, one might imagine that, apart from the Lord rising in Israel’s defense, they would be easily overtaken by a huge military force outnumbering them several times over, reigning down terror from the Golan Heights. Indeed, the Bible tells us only the Lord’s presence on the scene will save Israel from total annihilation. It will be His victory!
Given prophetic future events, one might think the Golan Heights would be a desolate place no one wishes to live. But think again! Jerusalem Dateline recently produced a fascinating piece regarding life on the Golan. You’ll find it in the first 7.5 minutes of this episode:
